Trust Wallet has reintroduced its Chrome browser extension following a December cyberattack that compromised roughly $8.5 million in user funds. The incident stemmed from a malicious extension update, impacting over 2,500 wallets across multiple blockchains.
The newly released version 2.71.0 enhances verification tools to support reimbursement claims and strengthens security protocols. Trust Wallet confirmed that only the browser extension was affected, while the mobile app remained secure. The company is continuing reimbursement for verified victims and believes the breach may be linked to a wider industry supply-chain attack.
